Our innovative technology teacher, Mrs. Valdez, has been leading the way in teaching our students about the importance of digital citizenship. This year, students across all grade levels have been diving into the exciting world of Minecraft Education, where they explore a specially designed digital citizenship world that reinforces these vital concepts.
Our 5th graders focused on identifying strategies for dealing with cyberbullying and learned how they can be upstanders for those being bullied. Meanwhile, our 4th graders engaged in discussions about "social interactions" online, exploring both the positives and negatives of digital communication with a partner.
For our 3rd graders, the emphasis was on understanding the impact of the words we use online and how they can affect others. Our 2nd graders learned that being a good digital citizen means being safe and responsible online. First graders were taught how to identify websites that are appropriate or not appropriate for their age group, while our kindergarteners discovered that the internet can be a tool to visit faraway places and learn new things, along with learning important rules for traveling safely online.
Through these interactive and age-appropriate lessons, Mrs. Valdez is ensuring that our students not only become proficient in using technology but also develop into thoughtful, responsible digital citizens who understand the importance of their actions in the digital world.
